Birth Marker

Birth Marker

2022 · Umbilical cords, baby teeth, baby hair, obsidian, silica glass · Installed with its companion piece, Plant Offering (2022).

This sculptural work marks the location where I was born. Encased in a vessel of obsidian and glass are the bodily remnants my brother and I shed: umbilical cords, baby teeth, and hair, offered as a way to remember origin, ancestry, and the body’s connection to place. Created as I prepared to leave my childhood home, the piece serves as a quiet ritual of departure and belonging.
